What are the beliefs behind the spiritual life?

I don’t feel that those interested in spirituality need to believe in a particular god or guru, or in rituals of any kind. We need not even “believe” in any particular technique, or the superiority of our techniques over those of others.

These may be further traps for the very ego we are trying to understand and dissolve.

The only valid assumption that I start with is the emptiness of the daily ego (an emptiness that so many mystical traditions have asserted). It’s an assumption in the sense that while I may glimpse emptiness in flashes, the ego is very real and powerful in daily life. Its unreality is not immediately apparent to me.

But I assume its emptiness and continue my experiments in awareness and meditation. Who knows where they will lead.
